"I would like to congratulate you on the Bonsor skatepark that recently opened. Good access is a major consideration when building a park, not just for the user but also for spectators and for safety reasons. The design is top notch and the location is well thought out with easy access for young people, via the Skytrain / Metro station.

Last month Time Magazine was looking for examples of skateparks that were “architecturally” stunning and I submitted Bonsor as a good example of a park that is both functional and eye pleasing. Concrete skateparks certainly fall into the “sculpture” category of art but to be successful they must also be functional. Bonsor received very high ratings by Concrete Disciples with an overall rating of 8, a tranny rating of 9 and a street rating of 7.

Burnaby has really stepped into the limelight as far as skateparks go. Bonsor is an excellent use of land, a great example of functional sculpture and a safe haven for thousands of young people. I hope other cities will look to Bonsor when designing their skateparks. Congratulations in a job well done!"

"The General consensus is that Bonsor's built well, fun to skate and is diverse..."

"The Bowl is awesome. The transitions are nice and quick with good corners and hips to grind and air over. The full pipe is smaller than Calgary’s and easier to skate. The Bonsor bowl has something other bowls in the area don’t have, POOL COPING! The guys at Spectrum lacquered the coping making it really fast and smooth to grind and slide."

"...after skating for a couple hours I was fully stoked. That's an awesome park! Personally for me, I think that is the best park in Vancouver."
- Troy Blackmore , Editor, Concrete Powder Magazine

"Burnaby stepped up and built a park with something for everyone. Recognising that the variety of users and styles of skaters is broad, Burnaby decided to go with clearly defined and separate sections for their park with a street style area (ledges, rails, etc.), a gnarly and unique bowl replete with pool coping and a fullpipe, and a "flow" section for the older guys and beginners to get their flow on."

"Skaters from around the region will now flock to Burnaby's
leading-edge skate park. The new skate park will become a destination skate park, said Chis Parry, director of the Canadian Amateur Skateboard Association. The park is an example of what cities should do when they build skate parks, he said. "This sets a
new standard." The 'dogleg bowl', said Parry, is great for beginners and intermediate skaters, & the middle section caters to the most advanced. There's even an observation platform for younger skaters to watch the pros and top amateurs expected to challenge themselves here. The street plaza section offers many of the features found in plazas, including stairs, curbs, railings, platforms.... Many city built bowls are rather generic or don't have anything for the wide array of skating styles and abilities, but Burnaby's does, Parry said....Chris Parry also agrees youth involvement made the park a success. Many skate bowls and parks don't have enough youth input and end up poorly used as a result."

"This is a super positive step. I would advocate other cities look at this" said Parry.

"This is one of my favorite parks. It has a good street section, insane bowls with pool coping, and a fun snake run/lump section. Burnaby is a place where you can shred around all day and not get tired of it."
– Thrasher Magazine
"Amazing work. Looks like a good mixed use facility. Good tranny and a good street plaza.”
- Dave Carnie, The Skateboard Mag
"...Thanks Jim and the rest of the crew at Spectrum for another great park."
- Monty Little, Founder, Canadian Skateboard Association
"The bowl is nuts."
- SBC Skateboard Summer 2005
"The street section has a brick style hip, Euro gaps, up and down ledges, lots of manual space, and intermediate rails."
